Positive Leadership Changes the World I have been lucky in my life to meet exceptional leaders during the course of my career, through travel, and (surprisingly) online via social media and meeting platforms ~ people who are leading in ways that facilitate the achievement and success of others, from young children to elderly seniors. Meet Shams Raza. I was lucky to meet Mr. Raza during my transition from a school district educator to a private consultant and mentor. Five years ago, Shams led a group of entrepreneurs in his position as a client manager, all committed to recognizing people across the globe for various and creative ways to facilitate positive change in the world. Through professional avenues, we also became unlikely friends who enjoy and respect each other’s unique talents, though I could be his grandmother. I admire his time management, his bi-lingual aptitude, ability to multitask, and commitment to his family as a husband and father. By the way, we have yet to meet in person, and we hope to meet someday. Perhaps this is a silver lining in the sometimes negative world of artificial intelligence...a benefit of positive relationships forged through social media. Now a senior manager, Mr. Raza has embraced a mission to recognize people who “quietly build, innovate, and significantly impact industries”. If you have followed my doctoral leadership research, you know that impactful leaders are not exclusively charismatic and outgoing. Shams is an impressive leader, though he is often behind the scenes, structuring success that his team carries out. Of my research’s five types of leaders, most people can identify strongly with two of the following specific categories. The five types are 1) charismatic, 2) quiet example, 3) service, 4) integrity, and 5) perseverance. In my years of connecting with Shams Raza, I would identify him as both a perseverant leader and a quiet example of excellence.
